                                               SCHOLARSHIP 2011

Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International is a non-profit organization
dedicated to wildlife conservation, education, humanitarian efforts, and protecting our hunting
heritage.  To further these goals, we will award a $4000 scholarship ($1000 per year for 4 years)
to a graduating senior from any public or private high school within the Kenai Peninsula
Borough.  To be eligible, the student must be accepted into an education program, wildlife
management or research curriculum in a related field at an accredited college or university and
enroll for a minimum of 12 semester hours or full-time equivalent.  A trade school or vocational
program in a related discipline will be considered, and future teachers are eligible.

Scholarship monies will be disbursed as reimbursement to the applicant’s chosen institution of
higher learning.  Scholarship funds may be used for tuition or books and supplies.  Any funds
not used by the recipient will revert to the AKPCSCI scholarship fund.

The scholarship may be renewed each year for continuing education in the approved program.
The applicant must submit transcripts and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.  Graduate students
will be considered on an individual basis.

The scholarship selection will be based on the following criteria:

1.        ESSAY content and grammar:  “How would I promote hunting within my age group?
         Why is it important?”
2.        Financial need.
3.        Scholastic achievement.
4.        Personal resume outlining your civic involvement, work history, hunting experience, and
educational goals.  One or two pages.
5.        Complete application with the financial statement.
6.        Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from school personnel.
7.        Planned field of study.
8.        Bonus points if parent is SCI member.
9.        1 bonus point for each year student has volunteered for SCI.
